Oasis Cardiff isn’t anything like a typical restaurant. It has grown into something fascinating: a supper club cooked by asylum seekers, giving them a chance to show off their heritage dishes. The fact much of this food will be unfamiliar to many of us is just a bonus, but make no mistake- this is a project to put a smile on your face, a microcosm of how a country can welcome those in need, and how food can unite people across continents and languages.
Expect next steps soon: individual cooks, drawing from a bold palette, bringing their home-style dishes to local venues. This is a chance to sample new flavours and ingredients you may not already know. This, naturally, is always ‘A Good Thing’ in the FMD book.
