Make a pledge – help Cardiff become one of the most sustainable food places in the UK

As part of a new campaign, Food Cardiff is asking people from all walks of life to make a pledge’ and take action to help Cardiff achieve Gold Sustainable Food Places status by the year 2024.

Food Cardiff, is a city-wide partnership of more than 200 individuals and organisations. Through this network, the partnership drives change at a city level, and works to tackle some of today’s biggest social, economic and environmental issues. Food Cardiff is also part of Food Sense Wales, which aims to influence how food is produced and consumed in Wales, ensuring that sustainable food, farming and fisheries are at the heart of a connected and prosperous food system.

What is a ‘sustainable food place’?

Last year, Cardiff was awarded Silver Sustainable Food Places status, and become the first city in Wales (and one of only six places in the UK) to achieve the prestigious accolade; the scheme is based on bronze, silver and gold achievements across six key sustainable food issues.

Now, independent businesses, cooperatives, third-sector organisations, and major institutions (such as Cardiff Council and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board) want to see Cardiff strive for the gold standard. The aim being for the city to become one of the most sustainable food places in the UK.

To do this, they are asking individuals, groups and businesses to make a pledge to support this mission. This could include to:

Cook and eat for better health

Cook and eat to protect the environment

Support local food businesses

Connect with the community through food

Help Cardiff’s Good Food Movement to grow

As one of the key focuses for Find My Dine, we’ll be pledging to continue to ‘support local food businesses’. Shopping with local, independent businesses keeps the money you spend circulating in your local community. It’s a great way to support the economy around you, to help out small independents and to find food that’s locally grown or produced. Check out Food Cardiff’s video below to find out more.

It is hoped that in the act of making a pledge, individuals, groups and businesses of Cardiff will be empowered to create a thriving local food economy, where everyone has access to food that is both healthy, and environmentally sustainable.

If you, your group or your business would like to make a pledge, simply click on the link below to register. Whether you do something big or small, it all adds up.
